Wheelchair Van In Floor Ramps

In-Floor Ramp Van Conversion For Disabled

The VMI In-Floor lowered floor handicap vehicle conversion is one of the most popular available today.

A Northstar handicap van starts with the lowered floor. Even though the wheelchair van has gone through this dramatic conversion process, it still performs much like any other minivan. The lowered floor is especially important in any handicap accessible van because it allows enough head room to enter and exit the mobility van while seated in a wheelchair.

The feature that really sets the Northstar wheelchair accessible van apart is the power in-floor ramp. This wheelchair ramp system has been meticulously designed to be the most safe and reliable available.

PowerKneel™ lowers the disabled vehicle closer to the ground, making the ramp angle less steep. This is a crucial feature for manual wheelchairs, but also important for power wheelchairs. The lower ramp angle means an easier transition into the disability van, as well as a comfort level of traversing a reduced incline.

An automatic electric remote control completes the VMI Northstar wheelchair van conversion, making it virtually effortless to use with the touch of a button. This handicap vehicle remote will open the door, deploy the in-floor ramp, and activate the PowerKneel™ all from the palm of your hand. Once inside (or outside) the handicap van, simply push the button again to reverse the system.

Some of the advantages and features of the Northstar ramp include:

  1. Additional interior space for wheelchair maneuverability:  With no ramp impeding your doorway, you have more room in which to move about.

  2. Obstruction-free doorway allows easy entry/exit for able-bodied passengers

  3. Clean, uncluttered vehicle interior: With no ramp visible inside the van, it is not only functional but aesthetically pleasing.

  4. Less dirt and debris from ramp in vehicle interior:  Traditional folding ramps have a tendency to bring debris and dirt into the vehicle when stowing.

  5. Wider usable ramp surface

  6. Easy access to all interior buttons, handles and switches

  7. Full use of front passenger seat

  8. No squeaking or rattling from ramp

  9. Ramp stowed safely under the floor in the event of a collision

  10. Deployable on curbs up to 10″ in height
